Bifurcated fans are basically fans, which have their motor isolated from the air stream.
For axial fans operating in dirty or corrosive environments, having the motor in the air stream can lead to premature motor damage.
Bifurcated fans isolate the motor from the air stream in a separate compartment. The fan's air stream goes along the motor's axis, whereas the motor's cooling flow goes perpendicular to that axis.
